Michael Cox and Company Limited are providing project management, CDM and BREEAM services to Arena Pontardawe social enterprise organisation established to develop and run a multi use arena at Pontardawe. A lease has been agreed with the local authority for part of Glan Rhyd Industrial Estate, Pontardawe. A grant has been received from the Welsh Ministers via the Western Valleys SRA grant which allowed a planning application to be submitted in August 2010; approval is anticipated in November 2010. Once further funding is in place procurement and construction will follow.

The development will consist of a 60m x 20m indoor arena and a 70m x 30m outdoor arena. The indoor arena is flanked with standing spaces, disabled and able bodied seating, meeting rooms, changing areas, cafeteria, toilets and office space. To provide a low level of residual income for the development a series of business spaces are provided separately on site. The main arena building is steel framed with metal cladding large access doors concrete seating and translucent side cladding. Ancillary areas will be constructed from concrete block work, upvc windows and with a minimal amount of building services, the scheme is required to achieve BREEAM Excellent to meet funding criteria.
